A new landmark
473 – 501 Karangahape Road is an address that has revitalised the neighbourhood while showcasing a harmony of heritage and modern. Large glass canopy wraps were installed around the Karangahape Rd and Howe St elevations to showcase the Italianate façade and Tesla, the major tenants NZ headquarters.
Five into one
The major hurdle that the design team faced was the combining of 5 different buildings with differing ages, designs and materials (some as old as 1885). The design was also required to consider the integration of the seismic strengthening works that were needed to bring the building up to modern standards. There is 5,500sqm commercial, office & retail spread across 8 separate tenancies ranging in size from 30sqm to 2,800sqm.
